+1 Upgrade Per Kill Gear Tiers: The Ladder That Is the Game

How gear tiers work in +1 Upgrade Per Kill — every kill upgrades one tier, every death downgrades one, and the whole game is protecting your ladder position.

The title of Block PvP's game is also its entire design document: +1 Upgrade Per Kill. Every kill upgrades your gear one tier. Every death downgrades it one tier. There is nothing else to manage — the arena IS the progression system. Here is how the ladder works and what it does to how you play.

The Ladder Logic

Gear tiers are both your power and your scoreboard. Kill a player: +1 tier. Die: -1 tier. The result is a live economy where your current tier is your risk capital — the higher you climb, the more each death costs you, and the more every kill is worth denying to your opponent. Unlike loadout games, there is no hiding from your record: it is on your character.

What This Does to Fights

The ladder rewrites standard arena aggression. Fighting up — attacking someone above your tier — is the high-value play: you gain the most and deny the most. Fighting down is maintenance: low reward, real downside if the lower-tier player outplays you. And running from fights you should not take is a core skill, not cowardice — one bad engagement can erase three good kills.

Snowballs and Bleeds

Two states define matches. The snowball: a streaking player whose tier is compounding into genuinely oppressive gear — the lobby's raid boss, worth grouping against. The bleed: a player stuck oscillating around their true tier, gaining and losing until they adjust their aggression to match their skill. The PvP strategy guide covers riding the first and stopping the second.

The Gifts That Buy You Buffer

Free gear from the WELCOME code and the Block PvP group gift does one specific job: it buys starting buffer tiers while you learn the arena — tiers you will lose learning, that you did not have to earn. Spend them on mistakes without guilt; that is what they are for. Once the buffer is spent, the ladder is honest — and the game begins.
